Court Improvement Program
The Louisiana Court Improvement Program is coordinated by the Pelican Center, under an agreement with the Louisiana Supreme Court. Within this project, training and consultations to help improve Child in Need of Care (CINC) cases is conducted using various methodologies. We assist with data collection/analysis, online training, consultations with the courts, live training and conferences, and through the CLARO website.
We have partnered with various groups to address the needs of children who have become involved in court systems to insure their cases follow the five timeliness measures and that their well-being is a priority. One of the key partnerships is that of the Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy, housed at Southeastern Louisiana University's Nursing School Campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Pelican Center manages the CLARO website which houses current resources, research reports and links, online CLE courses and a training calendar of local and national educational opportunities. CLARO stand for the Children's Law Advocacy Resources Online. You can click to access CLARO here.
Within the calendar, you will be able to easily identify if the training is sponsored by the Pelican Center, the Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy or the Louisiana Children's Justice Act by the color coding. A key is at the bottom of the calendar page.
The Pelican Center for Children and Families sends out a monthly newsletter via email with a list of the most recently added information and a list of upcoming training opportunities. Visitors to the site are invited to register so that they can access the online training and to receive the newsletter and updates.
The Pelican Center participates in hosting and planning of the Together We Can Conference annually. The next conference is the 22nd Annual Together We Can Conference and it will be held virtually on November 6-8, 2024.
