Thank you for your interest in the Louisiana Child in Need of Care Benchbook for Juvenile Judges (Benchbook). Please note that the Benchbook is in the process of being updated to incorporate changes to state and federal law and policy made since its publication in February 2021.
The Court Improvement Program of the Louisiana Supreme Court, Louisiana Judicial College, and Pelican Center for Children and Families are delighted to announce the publication of the Louisiana Child in Need of Care Benchbook for Juvenile Judges. The Benchbook project is a part of the Child and Family Services Review Program Improvement Plan. The Benchbook incorporates State and Federal laws, best practice, and the DCFS Child Welfare Assessment and Decision Making Model, which is designed to expedite permanency and decrease the trauma experienced by families and children in CINC proceedings. This work is the culmination of a year-long collaborative effort in our state. Many thanks to those of you who participated in the various workgroups or who were instrumental in making its publication a success. We invite you to read the Introduction to the Benchbook which provides an orientation to this resource and its overarching practice principles. In addition, the Table of Contents outlines all that the Benchbook has to offer. Please note that editable versions of the Order templates are available for immediate use. As always, we welcome questions and feedback.* Thank you for all the hard work you to do on behalf of Louisiana’s children and families. *For feedback, please contact:
